About Cathy Holt
Cathy Holt has been a student of Non-Violent Communication since 1998 with Marshall Rosenberg, PhD. She has been teaching her "Kind Communication" classes since 2004, through Blue Mountain Schoolhouse, the Kindness Campaign, Helpmate, the libraries, the Unity Church of Asheville, and the Jubilee Community.
Cathy has also facilitated mediations in Earthhaven Ecovillage, Asheville and Weaverville.
With Barry Weinhold, Ph.D., she has developed curriculum materials on conflict resolution and mediation for the Kind and Safe Schools Initiative, as part of Asheville's Kindness Campaign.
She is the author of The Circle of Healing: Deepening Our Connections with Self, Others, and Nature, and co-author of Creating Wholeness and Make Health Happen. See www.TalkingBirdsPress.com.
A graduate of Radcliffe College, Cathy received her Master's in Public Health Education from the University of California, Berkeley. As a biofeedback therapist, she has taught self-regulation skills to many clients with stress-related disorders and occupational injuries. She has also taught in hospitals, junior colleges, adult education centers, and JFK University's Graduate School of Holistic Health Studies.
Her activism in the movements for peace, renewable energy, occupational health, civil rights, and deep ecology spans four decades. She is a reporter for the Urban News & Observer, a multicultural newspaper, and is helping to start "Green Transit," a new earth-friendly, biodiesel shared transportation service; see GreenTransitNC.com.
