Classes and Events

Kind Communication Free Introductory Evening
Tried Stone Missionary Baptist Church Fellowship Hall
100 Carroll Street
Tuesday, April 17, 7 - 8 pm
There will be three classes after that, on Mondays (April 23, 30, and May 14);
a love offering will be requested. Please tell your friends!

In these classes participants will learn to speak in a way that emphasizes universal feelings and needs, rather than blame and judgment, guilt and shame. We will engage in active listening exercises and discover avenues to self-empathy. The aim is for deeper connection that allows everyone's voice to be heard and needs to be met.

    You will learn:

    • to replace disempowering words like "I should" or "I have to" with empowering language of choice
    • to distinguish between an observation and an evaluation (Telling the truth without blame or judgment)
    • to differentiate between feelings, thoughts and interpretations and to connect more deeply with your feelings
    • to explore and express the needs that drive feelings and behaviors
    • to make requests, rather than demands, in a way that will help you meet your needs
    • to give empathy and listen for the feelings and needs of others beneath their words
    • to deal compassionately with anger (your own, and others')
